Meet Misty Moseley – Rehabilitative ServicesWhere are you from, and where did you go to school?
I grew up here in Cleveland. My family is all still here. I graduated from Cleveland High School in 1992 and Delta State University in 1995. I also attended University of Louisiana at Lafayette for my graduate degree in Speech Pathology in 1997. After getting married and starting my family, I relocated back to Cleveland because I knew it was a great place to raise my family.
What is your job, and what are your responsibilities?
I am currently the Director of Rehabilitative Services and the Speech language Pathologist in outpatient and inpatient rehab. I am responsible for treatment of all patients with speech and language difficulties and swallowing difficulties. I am so responsible for the operations of all therapy disciplines and coordination of their services within outpatient, pediatrics, school contracts, swing-bed, acute care and LTC
How did you get interested in this field?
I knew early on that I wanted to work with people and I was intrigued by the medical field. I had a family friend/mentor that I observed in her job and was fascinated by her ability to connect with others and make a huge difference in their ability to communicate their needs after having a stroke. It was that moment at 16 years of age that I knew my passion for this type of field. 15 years later, I am still doing that with enjoyment.
What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is the building of relationships with people of all backgrounds and ages and being part of something great! I am honored and privileged to work with a great team here at BMC. I enjoy involvement in all aspects of promoting customer service and team dynamics.
What advice would you give others in the workplace?
- Always start your day positive!
- Do you best work!
- Remember you may be the only person that a patient talks to today!
