The Right People

Meet Mike Saxon – Plant Operations

Where are you from and where did you go to school?
I was born in Fort Polk, LA.  My family moved back to this area when I was 8 years old and I have been here ever since.  I graduated from Cleveland High School in 1989, attended Mississippi Delta Community College for two years on a baseball scholarship. After MDCC, I went to Delta State University where I received my B.B.A. degree (Management) in 1994.

What is your job, and what are your responsibilities?
I am currently the Director of Plant Operations, Environmental Services, and Security as well as the Safety Officer for the facility.  I am responsible for maintaining the physical structures, HVAC, mechanical, electrical systems, utility systems, grounds, security, safety, and cleanliness of the facility. I am also responsible for ensuring that BMC is compliant with all accrediting organizations, state, federal, and local regulatory laws, standards and protocols.

How did you get interested in this field?
After spending close to 19 years at Baxter Healthcare, I wanted to do something different.  A good friend of mine approached me and asked if I would be interested in coming to the hospital in this capacity. After taking a further look into the position and interviewing with the Administrative team, I decided to make the transition.  This was not an easy decision for me because Baxter was all I had ever known and had spent my entire professional career with them. I decided to make the change and have enjoyed every minute of it.

What is the best part of your job?
No day is ever the same! There is so many different aspects to my job that I literally don’t know what each day may bring. I really enjoy working with all the staff, visitors, and patients at the hospital and feel a since of accomplishment at the end of each day.

What advice would you give others in the workplace?
There is no greater joy or reward than to make a difference in someone’s life. Every day when we walk into this hospital, we have that opportunity. With that being said, my challenge to everybody, no matter what your job is this: Give the best there is in you; seize your opportunities, learn from your mistakes, and be a member of the team!
