Chaplains Return to Bolivar Medical Center
June 2, 2021
The Volunteer Chaplains’ Association at Bolivar Medical Center was welcomed with open arms earlier this spring.
The Chaplains serve the community by providing spiritual support to all patients, families and staff, and they are available 24/7 for visitation and individual counseling.
When COVID-19 impacted the visitor policy at Bolivar Medical Center, zero visitors were allowed into the facility out of an abundance of caution, including Chaplains and Auxiliary Volunteers. The visitor policy was modified in March due to a decline in positive COVID cases, and shortly thereafter, the Volunteer Chaplain’s Association reorganized.
Administrative Coordinator Summer McCain serves as the Chaplain Liaison and speaks to the association’s dedication.
“Working with the Chaplains firsthand is rewarding in and of itself. Seeing that there is a group of people out there that is willing to dedicate their time and resources without asking for anything in return is truly uplifting,” said McCain.
“We were so excited to renovate space for a brand new Chapel at the beginning of the year. The Chapel serves as a quiet place for prayer, meditation and/or visitation with a Chaplain. There is a beautiful stained glass window, a prayer kneeler and scripture for those who would like to utilize it.”
The Chaplains also have an office in the hospital for individual counseling needs.
The association has served Bolivar Medical Center for over 20 years, and currently, the Volunteer Chaplains’ Association has ten active members.
To be an active member, they must currently be a practicing or retired Minister, abide by the by-laws and hospital policies, and actively execute duties. All Chaplains are invited to participate in hospital events, have a designated parking space and receive free vaccinations and employee health evaluations. If you are interested in applying, contact McCain at 662-846-2551.
The team at Bolivar Medical Center is so glad to have this group of volunteers back in the facility.
