Bolivar Medical Center Shares its 2023 Community Benefit Report
March 25, 2024
Bolivar Medical Center today published its community benefit and economic impact report for the 2023 calendar year. This yearly report outlines the many ways the hospital positively contributes to the Cleveland area and spotlights how it continues to support the health and well-being of those who live and work in the region.
“Our partnership with the Cleveland area starts with the quality healthcare services we provide but extends well beyond our hospital walls, as this report details,” said Jimmy Young, CEO of Bolivar Medical Center. “We are a large employer and taxpayer, and we support organizations with a shared mission of advancing the community’s health and well-being. Our team embraces the opportunity to serve the patients who come to us for better health and the community that supports us by choosing Bolivar for their care needs.”
Bolivar Medical Center’s 2023 community benefit report highlights the hospital’s continued efforts to meet the growing healthcare needs of its community by welcoming new providers, expanding service lines and continually investing in its facilities and healthcare technology. For example, in 2023, Bolivar added 27 affiliated providers in areas that included Emergency Medicine, Geriatric Psychiatry, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Nephrology, Orthopedic Surgery and Radiology. Capital improvements included new cafeteria equipment and surgery equipment.
Additionally, Bolivar provided more than $19 million in health services to those in need, demonstrating the hospital’s continued commitment to ensuring everyone has access to care, regardless of their ability to pay.
Bolivar also strives to create an environment where providers want to practice, and employees want to work. In 2023, the hospital distributed nearly $33 million in salaries, wages, and benefits for its approximately 500 employees, and contributed more than $75,000 in professional development and tuition assistance to enhance its employees’ opportunities to learn and improve the care they provide their patients.
The report shares several examples of how Bolivar is continually seeking ways to make a positive impact in the communities it serves, extending far beyond the physical walls of its facilities. Last year, the organization paid nearly $4 million in provider, payroll, property, and sales taxes, displaying its commitment to fiscal responsibility that helps boost the area’s economic well-being. The hospital is also honored to have continued its support of local activities and organizations that contribute to the community, including Bayou Academy, Bolivar County Hospital Auxiliary, Bologna Performing Arts Center, Cleveland-Bolivar Chamber of Commerce, Cleveland Junior Auxiliary, Cleveland Park Commission, Cleveland School District, Crosstie Arts & Crafts Festival, Delta BBQ Battle, Delta Cotton Belles, Delta Rice Promotions, Inc., Delta State University Athletics, Ducks Unlimited, Presbyterian Day School, and ZOE Ministries, among others.
“There are many ways to promote a healthy community, and we are proud to partner with a number of organizations who contribute to the vitality of the Cleveland area,” added Young.
