Bolivar Medical Center Awarded Mississippi Cancer Registry Certification
September 6, 2018
Bolivar Medical Center’s Health Information Management Department recently received an overall silver certification from the Mississippi Cancer Registry (MCR) for quality data submission.
Director for MCR Deirdre B. Rogers, PhD, CTR, informed the hospital’s administration of the certification and explained the criteria.
“The purpose of the certification process is to recognize those hospitals who have submitted timely, complete and high quality data to the Mississippi Cancer Registry,” wrote Rogers.
“To receive a Silver certification for the 2016 data, your hospital must have submitted at least 90% of your expected volume of cancer cases diagnosed and/or receiving first course of treatment at your hospital.”
In addition to the percentage reporting, data quality and timeliness are measured.
BMC’s Director of Health Information Management and Privacy Officer Donna Knight, RHIA, MPH, gave further insight into the certification and commended the staff.
“Bolivar Medical Center was awarded the overall silver certification status but actually achieved a gold standard on five out of six measurements,” said Knight. “The HIM staff works incredibly hard to ensure that patient data is recorded and reported correctly, and I am proud of the team for this accomplishment.”
The Mississippi Cancer Registry houses aggregate cancer data for Mississippi on their website at http://mcr.umc.edu.
A part of LifePoint Hospitals®, Bolivar Medical Center's Emergency Department is a level 4 trauma center, and wait times are available on the website.
